Lawrence, KS 66044Eddy called today with a couple of issues. First he is extremely saddened over the death of their janitor for the church. The Janitor was preparing for services on Sunday and fell off a ladder and died. Funeral services will cost around $4,000 to which the family cannot pay. Eddy feels that he needs to help with this cost since he worked for the church so the church is trying to raise the funds to help pay the funeral costs. As you can see everything in Haiti has gone up in price. With limited Haitian government prices have soared for everything. In normal conditions funeral costs would be much, much less.
Eddy also expressed that there are no more tents available in Haiti to purchase and therefore they are relying on whatever tents he could get from the states. However, customs is charging extroadinary prices to get anything. They are charging by the pound. For example, most recently he picked up 8 tents from lexair and it cost him $400 to pick up through customs.
I plan to work with Chuck Davis with Caribbean Vision Ministries to see if this is also the case when shipping items to him in Florida and having it shipped over and driven down from Cap Haiten to Eddy. I do remember Chuck stating that the costs of the shipping is quite expensive as well.
WHAT WE NEED!!!!
* Donations towards funeral costs
* Donations towards purchase of tents
* Donations towards customs and shipping costsYou can designate your donations to any one of these items above by either putting a note in the memo of your check or a memo on paypal if you choose to donate through paypal.
We have spoken with Eddy who says that things are worse than they originally thought with the Church and School. Eddy met with an appraiser to get an estimate on repairs for their buildings and learned that it will cost between $60-$80 thousand to rebuild. Currently the most immediate needs are food, water, and hygiene kits. As you can see through the news the lines for receiving these items are quite long and even longer for the Delmas areas. Elderly folks simply cannot stand in line that long for their food due
to their health. For Eddy to go stand in line for them is not the best use of his time since he is helping people with food and medical issues as well from the church location. With what limited funds he had he has given it away to people to purchase gas in order to get out of Port Au Prince and move to other family or has purchased food to distribute to others. He would like to set up a food distribution center at the church for local members and folks close to Delmas to help eliminate the long lines. (We will be contacting large companies to see if they can help with rice, sardines, water, etc… to be shipped to Eddy)
Eddy’s long time childhood friend and pastor, Elysee Joseph of Cap Haitien which is North of Port Au Prince was on a plane to leave P.A.P the day of the earthquake but was unable to depart. He is safe and found refuge with Eddy & Mirlande at their church during the quake and aftermaths. Since Mr. Joseph is partnered with the Caribbean Vision Ministries out of Ft. Lauderdale he has been able to provide supplies through this ministry directly to Eddy at the Delmas Christian Church. We have been in touch with the director of Caribbean Vision Ministries and for immediate needs are working with them to send supplies directly to Eddy. This ministry is currently working on loading a 24ft Truck to ship to Cap Haiten and then drive to Port Au Prince to deliver the supplies to Eddy.
We learned that Eddy is now able to access
funds from the bank and we are forwarding money to him today. Upon speaking with Eddy he would like to see PCM continue to raise funds to rebuild the Delmas Christian Church and the school in addition to our working with Pastor Elysee Joseph and the Caribbean Vision Ministries to meet their immediate food and medical needs since they have the means to get supplies to Eddy. Phone and Internet are being restored and we were able to receive a few pictures of the church’s damage.
Eddy shared that it has been very tough emotionally that overall he has lost over 200 friends but that only 25 members of the congregation died and
63 families lost their homes. The 25 number he believes has increased but he isn’t sure yet due to lack of good communication and not knowing the additional affects of the second quake. He continues to lose church members, as people have to make decisions about moving out of Port Au Prince in order to survive. However he did share that he was able to win 3 doctors to Christ as he worked with them to aid folks. The doctors were all serving the devil but have come to realize that they were wrong and now want to serve Christ and learn more about Jesus whom Eddy speaks about. God is working a great miracle and doing marvelous things even through tragedy.

Friday, February 12th was National Day of mourning in Haiti. There have been many prayer and worship services across the country. Eddy led one worship service on Friday at the church with over 1000 in attendance. Another prayer and worship service will be held Saturday, 2/11 and regular worship on Sunday, 2/12.
I was finally able to get through to Haiti! I spoke to a deacon at the church called Petit-Frere. He says my dad and Mirlande and other family are 100% safe. The buildings are all still standing. Praise God! They did have a few walls collapse and a new cafeteria my dad was building collapsed as well. But all in all, they are safe and well.
I am still trying to speak to my dad personally. Will update again soon. God is so good! Nothing can express how happy I am to hear some news finally! Please forward this to our PCM supporters.Thank you, Lucie Bazin
