The school is a private school. Students who can pay tuition do pay, so tuition payments in Haiti amount to nearly enough to pay the teachers. Other expenses of the school are met through gifts from friends and gifts given by the church. We were blessed by special gifts from I.D.E.S. in 2003 and again in 2004 to pay for food for noon meals for the students. Some of the students had no food at home.
Although the school is not intended primarily as an evangelistic tool, there are many opportunities to teach Christ in the classrooms, and most of the students are influenced for good as well as being able to learn in subject areas of interest to them.
This past semester was a good one for the school, with a good number of new students although they were less than expected, due to political turmoil in our nation. We have now a little less than 1,300 students enrolled. Many have dropped out for financial difficulties. Fearing for their safety in travel, some have gone to closer schools.
But still it is going to be a great school year, hoping (praying) that God will grant us love and safety. As the work is expanding now we count on God first of all. But we count on you also to join us in prayer and to faithfully support this wonderful work.
Church members in the Delmas church also support the costs of the building the church and school use. Many are unemployed, yet church members contribute money as they are able, in addition to all their work donated on the building and in serving the Lord as a church.
As director of the school, Eddy faces many challenges each day, and appreciates our prayers that God will both bless him and each teacher with wisdom, strength, and patience, and will continue to provide what is needed to enable the continuing work.
And Eddy needs many more who will provide the funds to help him pay the school tuition for young people unable to pay even the small tuition at the school. Several have pledged and are giving $20 each month to provide tuition for one needy student. Please let us know if you can give an extra $20 per month for this purpose. Eddy will send you a picture of the student being helped, he says.
